Weather:
- The Dominican Republic enjoys a tropical climate with warm temperatures and high humidity throughout the year. However, there are two distinct seasons:
- Dry Season (November to April) :Temperatures range from 20-25°C (68-77°F) in the winter months and from 25-27°C (77-81°F) in the warmer months.
- Wet Season (May to October): During this period, the Dominican Republic experiences increased rainfall, especially in the northeastern regions. However, even during the wet season, temperatures remain warm and humid.
Common Diseases:
- The Dominican Republic, like many tropical countries, has a prevalence of certain diseases. Here are some common ones:
- Mosquito-borne diseases: Dengue, Chikungunya and Zika all are viral infections transmitted by mosquitoes. Symptoms include fever, headache, muscle and joint pain, and a rash. Also Malaria: A parasitic infection transmitted by mosquitoes. Symptoms include fever, chills, headache, muscle and joint pain, and fatigue.
- Waterborne diseases: Diarrhea, Typhoid and Hepatitis A
- Other diseases: Tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS and Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) Such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, and syphilis.
Food:
- The Dominican Republic has a rich and diverse culinary scene, influenced by Spanish, African, and indigenous Taino traditions.
- Mangu: A popular breakfast dish made from mashed plantains, often served with fried salami, fried cheese, fried eggs, and avocado.
- Sancocho: A hearty stew made with a variety of meats and vegetables, such as beef, chicken, pork, yuca, sweet potatoes, and plantains.
- La bandera dominicana: The "Dominican flag," a traditional meal consisting of rice, beans, and fried meat or chicken.
- Ropa vieja: A shredded beef stew with tomato sauce, onions, and bell peppers.
- Chivo guisado: A goat stew with onions, garlic, and tomatoes.
- Pescado frito: Fried fish, often served with rice, beans, and salad.

- After applying here, Please apply on CMANA
- Once your application is reviewed and an approval decision is made, we ask that you follow up within 1 week either confirming your commitment to joining the mission and submitting your registration fee or letting us know if unable to join.
- If you are a Canadian citizen, your payment process will be different. Please be on the lookout for more information once approved for the trip.
- Please do not purchase tickets for a flight until you have received confirmation from the Missions email account that you have been accepted for the mission.
- Although we list a closing date to submit your application on the website, if we have reached capacity prior to it, we will close the application process early. We do often receive a large group of applicants so please be sure to apply as early as possible to ensure you make it through the first step. Due to limited space, priority will be given to healthcare professionals, followed by healthcare students, followed by college students and servants. In the case of an excess number of student applicants, students can opt to be placed on a waiting list in case additional space opens up.
